Intramural FAQ's
- What is the Intramural Program?
The Intramural program’s mission is to encourage active involvement of all students, faculty, and staff in structured recreational and competitive activities. A wide range of activities are offered through leagues, tournaments, and special events while providing students with leadership experiences through active involvement as team captains, scorekeepers, officials and supervisors.
- Who may participate in the Intramural Program?
Only University of Maine at Machias students, faculty and staff may participate. General community members, CLL members, or UMM alumni may not participate.
- Do I need to have a team to participate or can I register as an individual?
We do encourage you to put together your own team. However, if you do not have enough players, a “Free Agent” list (located on a bulletin board in the Reynolds Center Lobby) is provided. Team captains may use players on this list to complete their rosters. The remaining players on the “Free Agent” list will be combined into a team and a team captain will be designated.
- How do I register as a team or free agent?
Registration forms are available on line at http://umm.maine.edu/umm-intramurals.html as well as in the Reynolds Center lobby. All registrations/roster forms must be submitted by the published event deadline. Entries can be turned in at the CLL’s front desk, the wall folder in the lobby of the Reynolds Center or to the Director of the CLL’s office. Free agents can register by adding their name and phone number to the appropriate list posted on the bulletin board in the Reynolds Center.
- How many varsity athletes can participate?
In an effort to maintain a competitive balance, only two varsity athletes may participate on a team of a similar sport. For example, 5-v-5 basketball team may only have a total of two varsity basketball players, past or present on the team. This maximum total is any combination of male and/or female varsity basketball players. However, there can be an infinite number of soccer or volleyball players on the roster.
- How many players are allowed per team?
Each event will require a minimum number of participants, i.e. 3-v-3 basketball requires a minimum of three players on the roster submitted. There is no maximum number of players. However, roster additions must be submitted to the intramural department in accordance with the stated operation policy that can be found on the website.
- Does my team need to attend the captain’s meeting?
Each team must have a representative at the respective captain’s meeting. At this meeting, team schedules will be distributed and event rules and department policies will be discussed. Any team not having a representative maybe removed from the league.
- What happens if my team cannot play on a scheduled day?
The Intramural Program does allow games to be rescheduled due to conflicts. However, the team captain must notify the Intramural Coordinator at least 24 hours in advance.
- Are all special events one day?
In general all special events are one day programs. Each team will receive a schedule and play multiple teams during the scheduled day. However, there are instances where the finals maybe scheduled on a separate day. For example, the finals of the hotshot contest will be held during halftime of a varsity basketball game.
