Men's Basketball
The University of Maine at Machias Men’s Basketball Program is quickly moving back to the dominance of the 80’s when the Clippers won 11 straight Northeast College Conference championships between 1981 and 1992. Recently, the Clippers have won regular season Sunrise Conference Championships in 2004-05 and 2006-07. The Clippers also took home a Sunrise Conference Tournament Championship in 2003-04 and appeared in the NAIA National Tournament that season. The Clippers look to challenge for another Sunrise Conference championship and NAIA national tournament appearance this season.
The men’s basketball program also makes its mark off the floor with community service projects. These projects include working with Rose Gafney Schools reward program for middle school students and running basketball clinics for local high schools. Many of the Clipper players volunteer time to coach AAU teams in the off season.
The 2007-08 basketball schedule features the tough Sunrise conference slate of games plus a challenging non-conference schedule. The non-conference schedule includes two tournaments. November 17-18 the Clippers will travel to the Elms College Blazer Invitational in Chicopee, Massachusetts and January 4-6 the Clippers will travel to Halifax, Nova Scotia Canada for a tournament at King’s College. The Clippers will also travel into New Brunswick, Canada for regular season games with St. Thomas University, Mount Allison University and the University of New Brunswick-Saint John. The non-conference schedule also includes some familiar in state opponents with games at Husson College and versus Maine Maritime Academy as well as home and home contests with the University of Maine at Augusta and the University of Maine at Presque Isle. In conference the Clippers travel throughout New England as the conference is spread across four states. The conference tournament will be held in Portland, Maine this season.
